About the Movement

More Than a Walk.
A Movement.

Abaya Walk is a global initiative where women come together to walk side by side in unity, leadership, and support. What began as one walk in Doha in 2022 has grown into something much larger.

The Story

How It Started

In 2022, Mariam Farid — an athlete and community leader in Doha, Qatar — created a simple idea: women walking together. No rankings, no standards, no performance pressure. Just presence, energy, and purpose.

What started as a single walk became a community. Then a movement. The abaya — worn by many of the participants — became a symbol of collective identity, dignity, and expression. Not imposed, but chosen. Not uniform, but unifying.

Today, Abaya Walk is expanding across the world. From Doha to Paris to London — and soon to Jakarta, Dubai, New York, Riyadh, and Toronto. Each walk is locally led, globally connected.

Our Philosophy

Four principles guide everything we do.

Presence Over Image

Every participant is valued for who she is, not how she looks. No judgments based on appearance, clothing brands, or social status.

Shared Leadership

There is no hierarchy among walkers. Every woman who walks is part of the leadership of this movement.

Stories Across Generations

Every walk becomes a space for exchanging stories — across ages, backgrounds, and life experiences.

Solidarity, Not Competition

Abaya Walk is not about outdoing each other. It is about walking beside each other. Supporting. Uplifting.

Our Purpose

Create a space where women are seen and heard beyond labels.

Promote community, leadership, and mutual respect.

Transform a simple act — walking together — into a powerful moment of collective presence.

Build bridges between women of different backgrounds, generations, and perspectives.
